A GLOBAL MISSION

Discover Health Global Initiative (DHGI) is working to solve global health problems through education, research, clinical work, and advocacy and conveying the promise of healthy futures.

DHGI Public health professionals are agents for disease prevention and health promotion, they analyze and develop programs that protect the health of individuals, families and communities locally and international (global) using education, health literacy, development of healthy lifestyles, research and program implementation.

Global health addresses the health of people living in low- and middle-income countries also called developing countries.  In these countries health fears include not only infectious and tropical diseases (such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases and malaria), but also chronic and non-infectious diseases, as well as age-related illnesses and conditions, malnutrition, poor sanitations, poverty and hunger.  Included are, mental illness and the health consequences of trauma, violence, war and displacement.  Additionally, maternal and child health is of great significance for global health professionals. The reason is because so much of the avoidable morbidity/mortality in the developing world is attributed to a lack of access to adequate prenatal and obstetric care, preventable or curable childhood illnesses, such as diarrhea and respiratory infection.

Parasitic and bacterial diseases of Neglected Tropical Diseases and diseases of poverty cause substantial illness for more than one billion people globally (http://www.cdc.gov/globalhealth/ntd/)
